MID-WEEK

Jesus is the Life that is truly life.

Let’s not accept anything other than the real thing!

Brothers and Sisters,

We’ve spent 10 weeks considering the wisdom given to us in the book of Proverbs. We’ve asked God to show us how to do life well.

Sunday, I shared revelation the Lord had given to me about the uniqueness and excellencies of Jesus found in Proverbs, starting with verse 30:4-

Who has gone up to heaven and come down?
Whose hands have gathered up the wind?
Who has wrapped up the waters in a cloak?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and
What is the name of his son?
Tell me if you know!

As I traced through Proverbs, I saw a theme of life and of the ways to life. Three pictures stood out:

The path of life (2:19, 12:28, 15:24)
The fountain of life (10:11, 13:14, 14:27, 16:22)
The tree of life (3:18, 11:30, 13:12, 15:4)

I made the case that these are pictures of Jesus, fully revealed through the Gospels and the rest of the New Testament.

Let’s share his name and his Good News with all those we know, for the glory of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Learning to live and love in Jesus with you,

Denis

MID-WEEK

We are wired for friendship with Jesus and with one another! The Gospel good news is that we can be God’s friend, by faith!

(Share your stories on Mariemont Church Families FB page.)

Brothers and Sisters,

I was challenged last week as I contemplated my friendship patterns and how well I observe the wisdom of Proverbs in my role as a friend.

I hope you were encouraged to seek out “Corner Four” friendships in this coming season!

Men, I especially want us to be aware of this opportunity, as our women tend to understand it much more vividly.

Speaking of opportunities, men, please email Rob Seetin about participating in this Saturday’s men’s event, come and start some new friendships!

(Rob’s email is rjseetin @ gmail.com)

May we continue to seek true friendship with Jesus, Denis

MID-WEEK

There is much to learn from the ant. God says the ant’s life of diligence will help us “see” and escape the fate of the sluggard.

Brothers and Sisters,

It was great to worship with you last Sunday – I loved singing and contemplating what a good father our great and gracious God really is!

Steve Cesler’s message on the sluggard – and his encouragement to be diligent like the ant instead – was challenging and motivating.

I loved Steve’s illustration about the journey of parenting from a ministry called JH Ranch and wanted to give you easy access to the resources he mentioned if you want to learn more:

MID-WEEK

The tongue can bless or curse. It seems to have a life of its own. But wisdom says it can be tamed by the Spirit of Jesus!

Beloved,

I hope Paul Rasmussen’s message on the tongue was convicting and motivating for you. It is such a challenge to us individually, our families, and our fellowship!

The good news is that by the Spirit, Jesus can tame the tongue and empower us to speak words of life and encouragement to one another!

This week, would you please meditate on James 3:6 and then by the Spirit’s power, speak a blessing to one person every day?

“And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.”

May we seek and speak wisdom together, to live and love in the wisdom of Jesus, Denis

The church is making a great impact in the public square, but there is much more to be done!

Beloved,

Again I am writing this week’s email ahead of time due to travel. I trust the message on wisdom in the public square was helpful to you!

I’m praying that everyone eligible in our congregation registers and votes in November. May we be diligent to understand all the national, state and local issues and candidates – and to vote with wisdom in the power of the Holy Spirit this November!

Remember the cool “Bible Project” video we used to help kick off our series in the Psalms?

Here’s the video they made on the book of Proverbs: It’s well worth 8 minutes, click below:

I’m praying that your daily reading in the Proverbs is profitable, that we pray together for wisdom from above, and that we do the work of putting the Word into obedient practice. (James 1:22.)

May we seek and apply wisdom together, to live and love in the wisdom of Jesus, Denis

The challenge of parenting and discipline is that it’s going on between sinners behind enemy lines!

Friends,

I’m writing this week’s email ahead of time due to summer travel.

I hope the Proverbs thread on the parental role of training and discipline was helpful in your parenting journey.

Today I want to focus on the process of repenting of our sins and asking forgiveness from our children. I did not experience this growing up and I found it really hard to practice with my kids.

Yet, I cannot think of a better way to model the authentic basis for our faith and to help our kids truly understand the Gospel.

The link below to an excellent devotional will encourage you in this journey. (Thanks to Katie Dokmo for bringing it to my attention):

http://www.desiringgod.org/articles/ask-your-child-to-forgive-you

I sense a great work of God underway in our congregation as we raise almost 100 kids to become spiritual champions – one of our highest leverage Kingdom opportunities!

May we all learn together about what it means to live and love in the wisdom of Jesus, Denis

Wisdom vs. Folly
Light vs. Darkness
Spirit vs. Flesh
Life vs. Death

Brothers and Sisters,

Proverbs chapters 8 and 9 give a powerful picture of wisdom and folly personified.

We are constantly being invited by both of these voices and by God’s grace we can choose and apply wisdom.

I am so thankful for the continuous process of repentance and faith and transformation in the power of the Holy Spirit!

May we rest well this summer and learn together what it means to live and love in the wisdom of Jesus, Denis
