MID-WEEK

Last Sunday: Hear my voice.
Next Sunday: Hold on to what you have.

Friends

Last Sunday, Terri Cofskey did a beautiful job helping us look at the crucial subject of hearing God’s voice!

In John 10, Jesus makes an amazing promise and command that true followers will hear his voice – all while claiming that he is the Messiah, the famous shepherd of Psalm 23, and one with the Father!

Terri gave us five critical truths connected to hearing God’s voice, sharing her story and the insight from 1 Kings 19:12 that God’s voice is a “gentle whisper”. Here they are:

1. We must receive salvation (become one of his sheep)
2. We must know and obey God’s Word (his revealed language)
3. We must be sensitive to the Spirit (his counselor)
4. We must have a desire for God (the heart quest)
5. We must be humble (hungry, not comparing to others)

Let’s keep seeking after God and eagerly ask to hear his voice and obey what we hear!

I’m looking forward to exploring your testimonies next Sunday. Also, please note key upcoming dates below.

MID-WEEK

Last Sunday: Abide in me.
Next Sunday: Hear my voice.

Friends,

The words of Jesus in John 15 invite us to abide in the presence of our amazing Messiah.

This word translated “abide” is so rich – it has a wide range of meaning including to live, dwell, stay, commune, gaze on, live with, and walk with.

It means letting Jesus live in and through us.

Last Sunday Mike Cambron gave us a passionate reflection of his life long quest to abide in Jesus.

Mike also shared from the experience of well known Christians like Oswald Chambers, Dallas Willard, Watchman Nee, and Hudson Taylor – all of whom sought Jesus with all their hearts.

What is the key to a life of abiding in Jesus?

It seems the key is to believe and trust in his presence, believing that Jesus is true to his Word.

Mike encouraged us that time in God’s Word is one of the most profitable means of abiding. So as we pray, lets make “hearing his voice” in his Word part of our daily diet!

All of this is a great set up for next Sunday, when we will look at hearing God’s voice!

Last week: Do not lose heart!
Next Week: Abide in me!

Brothers and Sisters:

This will be very brief: I just want to encourage you today to keep presenting your requests to God.

Jesus commands us not to lose heart. Share your prayer burdens with a prayer partner or your small group.

I’m asking right now for us to have that spiritual “stick-to-itty” that we need to trust and wait.

Remember, we are not dealing with a heartless judge, but a good and generous Father!

Last week’s command:Stand firm to the end!
Next Week: Do not lose heart in prayer!

Brothers and Sisters:

No subject helps us in becoming more Needy before God than the Bible’s description of the last days.

No one knows when Jesus will return, but we are clearly seeing the early signs of the end.

Evil is on the rise. So are false teachers and prophets. The Middle East is a hot bed of controversy and conflict.

Zeke’s message last Sunday unpacked a prophetic warning and blessing from Jesus for us to stand firm, ready.

Jesus fully intends for us to stand firm to the end, but only by depending on him as needy disciples!

Let’s keep asking for our top 3 needs in the prayer experiment, and let’s keep asking for the protection of innocent babies and justice for the perpetrators of murder and body part sales.

Let’s also continue to lift the whole church in prayer. Ask God to make us more needy. Ask God to answer our most urgent prayers.

I’m looking forward to hearing your testimonies throughout the rest of the summer!

Last week’s command: Pray, believing and watching!
Next Week: Stand firm until the end!

Family:

There has been a very encouraging response to our summer of being Needy before the Lord – seeking him in prayer and depending more deliberately for all our needs.

Just like Jesus with His Father!

Last week we launched a prayer experiment. We are seeking God in faith and not doubting – for the top three things we believe He wants us to ask for on behalf of those around us.

I have a request for everyone below, but if you missed, here’s what we are doing. Over the next several weeks, we will join with a prayer partner to seek God as Needy children.

What are you believing God for?

I look forward to hearing your testimonies!

This week, I received a link to a very disturbing video about Planned Parenthood and their harvesting of organs from aborted children in order to sell them!

Talk about pure evil! But this need meets it’s match in Jesus!

There is no one more Needy than an unborn child in the hands of murderers. Alone, unprotected, vulnerable.

Here is the link to the latest video. It’s very hard to watch but we need to know: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw2xi9mhmuo

Let’s make this a prayer item for our whole congregation: That God would rescue these unborn children and bring the perpetrators to justice, for his sake and for his glory.

For the love of Jesus, Denis

Fellow Needy Ones:

I’m not trying to make us feel like we’re in the remake of “What about Bob?” – rather, I’m referring to my hope that we’ll relish becoming more Needy before God!

According to Jesus, being needy is good!

Last Sunday, in Luke 11, we learned that the idea of being on our knees imploring our great Father to give us what we need is exactly how Jesus taught us to pray and live.

Take a minute to consider your prayer life. Are you filled with the Holy Spirit? How do you know?

What are you asking God to do these days? How intently are you pursuing God? Are you desperate for anything? Do you keep track of God’s responses? How do you know God has heard you?

This week, make a list of the most important three prayer requests that you have. Begin an experiment to ask God daily or as often as you are led by the Spirit to ask.

Let’s each lift the whole church in prayer. Ask God to make us more needy. Ask God to answer our most urgent prayers.

Let’s do this for the next 2-3 weeks and report our results on Sunday morning August 9.
