Four Key Questions

Fellow Pilgrims:

Last Sunday we began a new series in the book of Revelation. We learned that this is an apocalyptic letter offering a look “behind the veil” at the person of Jesus.

I’m looking forward to more deeply experiencing the hope God offers his people through the Revelation of Jesus with you.

I have sensed that rather than offer detailed application with each sermon, it might be more profitable for us to consider four major themes of Revelation and the key questions they spark.

I’m hoping that considering these things together over the entire time of the study will allow the Word to dwell in us richly and perhaps stimulate some deeper dialogue and life transformation in our families and small groups.

Here are the four key themes & questions:

1. God is sovereign, holy and totally authoritative.
Do I fear and trust him?

2. God has a plan and wins thoroughly.
Is he my true hope, peace and joy?
3. We have great reason to share this news with others.
Am I willing to be a priest, an agent of grace?

4. Jesus is focused on his eternal Kingdom.
Am I really living in light of eternity?

I’m looking forward to growing together with you in 2016 as we learn to live and love in Jesus in new and deeper ways together, Denis

The Way

Vision Sunday 2016

(Happy New Year!)

Brothers and Sisters:

Last Sunday we refreshed our congregation vision and committed ourselves and the New Year to the Lord.

If you missed, please get a CD or listen to the podcast and also pick up an updated copy of “The Way” at the welcome desk!

We are asking everyone to prayerfully consider their response to the Vision in 2016 by filling in the response sheet in the center of the booklet.

Please return your response by Sunday January 31 – all responses will be kept in confidence, but will allow our leadership team to make better decisions with your aggregate responses!

May the Father bless you in 2016, Denis

Week Five: What is Jesus Coming With?

(Happy New Year!)

Brothers and Sisters:

Jesus is forever. As we learned in Psalm 110, Jesus is our forever priest-king-prophet-warrior.

He does all.

What a privilege to know, serve and wait for  him. What a confidence builder to have him living inside of us.He knows all.

The future is in his hands. What a great comfort to know he is loyal and humble.

He is all.

Jesus is the joy of advent: Even so, Come Lord Jesus!

May Jesus fill your 2016 and your forever, Denis

Week Four: How is Jesus Coming?

Friends,

I’m so thankful for the Scriptures. God has revealed Himself and his plans for us – giving us a treasure of truth and grace that we can rely on for knowing God, receiving salvation, and wisdom for living.

As we enter a time of growing rebellion and global calamity, it is so reassuring to know that God has spoken clearly about what to expect and how to navigate life as a follower of Jesus.

No topic in Scripture is more encouraging that what God has planned for those who love him as we approach the conclusion of history. I hope you are rejoicing in the details he has given us about his return.

Yesterday, I was able to share with a friend in a wheelchair and encourage him to hope in the return of Jesus and the righting of all things, including his body. It’s going to be glorious!

May your Christmas be blessed with hope!
Even so, Come Lord Jesus! Denis

Adventos Week Three: Why is Jesus Coming?

(Feedback appreciated on the new podcast)

Miss a Service? Click for Podcast

Brothers and Sisters:

Jesus is so smart and strategic. He always has every possible angle covered, knows everything all the time and has a purpose for everything. Nothing surprises him or even occurs to him. He knows every why.

His purposes are always perfect, his goals are all good and he always achieves them. In Psalm 138, David confidently writes that God will achieve his purposes in the King’s life.

God will always meet his plan for us, as we trust him!

We can take comfort that the One directing us will achieve his “Why” for us, and as we follow him, we enter into the stream of his larger purposes.

He is able. He is good. He is willing.

So as we looked at the end of Revelation last week, we can know that Jesus will return and that he will accomplish his Word. It’s a sure thing. Every “Why” for his return will be accomplished.

He is coming soon to:
Complete our salvation
Convert the rest of the Jews
Crush Satan and evil
Command the earth as King
Condemn the ungodly
Create the new heavens & earth
Consummate history

That is the joy of advent. Come Lord Jesus! Denis

Week Two: Know why he’s coming to Jerusalem!

Miss a Service? Click here for Podcast. (Feedback appreciated on the new podcast)

Fellow Disciples:

Advent this year feels extra invigorating to me as we focus on the return of Jesus.

If you missed the first week, we are trying a new audio-only podcast, click on podcast above to give it a try!

Is this a good medium for you? Did it work well?

I loved Ofer’s message last Sunday based out of Psalm 2. He reminded us of God’s love for Jerusalem:

Jesus died on the Cross to cover our sin – there.
Jesus rose from the grave to blaze the path to eternal life – there.
Jesus ascended into heaven and poured out his Spirit – there.
Jesus will rule the earth on David’s throne – there.

We should become familiar with this place, especially gaining understanding as to what it means for God, for every believer and for all the current news coming from there.

Let’s pray for the shalom of Jerusalem and our brothers and sisters there today facing the rage of the nations. Lift Moran Rosenblit and Ofer Amitai and their families and ministries there.

May Jesus be our refuge this Christmas season.

Awaiting His return with great hope, Denis

Week One: Know and Love The One Who Is Coming!

adventus-fb-cover-photo

Fellow Disciples:

I’m excited to experience Advent with you this year as we focus on the return of Jesus. This is the true meaning of Advent.

As we learned Sunday, Advent translates the Latin Adventus, which translates the Greek Parousia. The latter term almost always refers to the return of Jesus as described in Revelation 19 and 20.

It’s a glorious hope we have as we consider the increasing mess in the world around us. Buddha or Mohammed are not coming back. Jesus is the only one who has promised to come back for us.

He will set everything right. He will judge every wrong. He will vindicate everyone who truly trusts him. He will fulfill every promise of the Father, fully reveal his glory, fully usher in the Spirit.

We who know and love God will be ready to meet Jesus. We who live for Jesus will be ready for eternity. Let’s pray together for the Spirit’s power to be ready and invite others to the banquet.

Awaiting His return with great hope, Denis
