MID-WEEK

The dramatic rescue of God’s chosen people through Esther’s bravery reminds us of the faithfulness of God.

It is a preview of the brave rescue of God’s people by Messiah Jesus – and the victory of God over evil.

Brothers and Sisters

Thank you for your prayers for our Israel trip team. It was a magnificent journey with Jesus and we all returned safely with many blessings – we will give an update on a coming Sunday!

I’m grateful for Kevin Robinson’s messages the last two weeks through the story of Esther, especially the great background he shared on the importance of this story to the Jewish people.

The dramatic turnaround and rescue of God’s people is such a beautiful picture of God’s faithfulness. In a world of rampant antisemitism, the church can be encouraged by God’s faithfulness!

May we be Esther types who serve God, take risks and celebrate what He has done for us. He is faithful!

Read it this week!

Friends

I’m writing this week’s email ahead of my departure to Israel. When you open this, please lift a prayer for our team to encounter Jesus and to return safely!

I encourage you to take 30 minutes this week to read the whole story of Esther as a family, to witness the rescue of God’s people from their enemies.

This story reminds us that we have a faithful God! Even when he is not explicitly named, he is working out his purposes in history.

May you be blessed this week as you trust the God who has every detail of your life in the palm of his hand.

We have come to the end of Revelation. Everything will be made new. I mean everything!

Nothing evil or imperfect will survive. Only beauty, fullness and joy unending.

This is our destiny as followers of Jesus, joint heirs to eternal life.

Let us savor this, anticipate it, and make this life with our awesome God the heartbeat of our lives.

One last time, let’s ask God to make our answers to these four questions a resounding yes in every aspect of our lives!

1. God is sovereign, holy and totally authoritative.
Do I fear, love and trust him?

2. God has a plan and wins thoroughly.
Is he my true hope, peace and joy?

3. We have great reason to share this news with others.
Am I willing to be a priest, an agent of his grace?

4. Jesus is focused on his eternal Kingdom.
Am I really living in light of eternity?

Let’s live and love together in the Risen Jesus,

Denis

MID-WEEK

Revelation gives the church a logical ground of hope and the basis for thinking intelligently about this life and the next.

Ideas matter, and the right ideas about God matter most.

Friends

The destruction of Babylon and the return of Jesus in chapters 18 and 19 of Revelation bring us to the turning point of the cosmic battle of good vs. evil, and the certainty of God’s victory.

The very words of Jesus in John 14 promise us that he will return after going to prepare a place for us. In making this promise, Jesus reaffirms that he is the only way to the Father.

Let’s think. Having created the world in all it’s beauty the first time around, Jesus is making a place for us in his Father’s house. Now at the end of the Bible, we see his plan to make good on that.

He will completely destroy evil and put it away forever. He will judge perfectly, and demonstrate the wisdom of his judgments. Then he will make a new heaven and earth, as promised by the prophets.

The truth of Jesus should govern every aspect of life. How to think. How to relate to others. How to use money and time. How to raise kids. How to treat my spouse. How to vote. How to dream.

Let us be a thinking church. A church thoroughly grounded in the big ideas of Jesus. A church that aligns our lives with his Word.

Let’s keep meditating on four application questions raised by the book of Revelation. This week, let’s focus on the first question:

Learning to think like Jesus with you,

Denis

Prayerfully inviting someone for Easter Sunday can change their eternal destiny.

Experience the joy of helping someone find a new forever!

Brothers and Sisters

As we progress through the pages of Revelation, we are seeing the majesty, power and holiness of God ever more clearly.

We are also seeing with greater clarity the deception of the enemy and the awful fate of those who reject Jesus.

This gives us ample incentive to pray for those in our lives who do not know Jesus and to consider how we can share his love with them.

One practical way is to pray about who might be a good person to invite to our Easter services.

On Easter, we will look at Revelation Chapter 22 and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, and his plan for our resurrection to live with him forever.

This is a stunning vision – a new humanity free from sin and pain, in new bodies, ruling with Jesus over a new heaven and a new earth.

Your prayerful invitation may change someone’s eternal destiny: what better gift than a new forever?

Let’s continue meditating on four important questions raised by the book of Revelation as we continue to study and pray.

This week I suggest we focus on the third question:

May we invite people to follow Jesus with us,

Denis

The warning aspect of Revelation comes from the heart of a savior who wants our best.

Friends

Last Sunday we looked at the Trumpet judgments – their meaning 2000 years ago and their application today – a divine warning aimed a bringing us to repentance and worship.

We saw both a refusal to repent at the end of chapter 9 and a significant turning to honor God in chapter 11. God is constantly inviting us to turn to him and to seek shelter in him alone.

Let’s continue meditating on four important questions raised by the book of Revelation as we continue to study and pray.

This week I suggest we focus on the second question:

May we turn to Jesus today,

Denis

Our judgment is in the hands of a righteous Savior who fully knows the human condition and every detail of our lives.

Brothers and Sisters

Our study of Revelation now turns to an extended section of judgment through chapters 6-18.

This judgment follows a very precise pattern and is filled with reassurances for the people who trust their lives to Jesus.

Here we see both the mercy and the severity of God.

There is continued invitation to trust Jesus, as he reassures his followers of his shepherd’s protection – as we saw in chapter 7.

There is also a terrifying outcome for those who will not accept the authority of Jesus and his rule in chapter 8. Psalm 2 will be fulfilled and no nation will be able to oppose God and his chosen King.

Let’s continue meditating on the main questions raised by the book of Revelation as we continue to study and pray.

As we observe Ash Wednesday today, lets make these our Lenten reflection questions:

May you rest in the trustworthy hands of Jesus today,

Denis

Revelation chapters 4 & 5 emanate with the glory and the worthiness of our God. He is so deserving to be praised as our awesome Creator and Redeemer.

As we responded to the Word Sunday, my heart was overflowing with praise, and I sensed the Father’s joy as we honored his entire family.

This week, let’s ask God to fan our love into flame and let’s look for new opportunities to worship and praise him in the details of life.

Let’s also consider what preparation God would have us make before we arrive for corporate worship on Sunday.

I believe intentional preparation and unhurried arrival on Sunday will allow each of us to enter more deeply into the blessing and privilege of worship.

Below is my weekly reminder of our four themes and four key questions for personal application. Let’s focus on the first two this week!

1. God is sovereign, holy and totally authoritative.
Do I fear and trust him?

2. God has a plan and wins thoroughly.

3. We have great reason to share this news with others.

Church Vision According to Jesus

(Please turn in your vision response this coming Sunday, January 31st)

Friends

Last Sunday we studied Revelation chapters 2 & 3 and considered the vision the risen King Jesus has for his church.

Jesus is very particular about the vision and trajectory of every church in the world, MCC included!

In love, Jesus both encourages and critiques the churches in seven Asian cities – each of which yields important lessons for each believer and congregation.

Jesus highlights 7 traits he wants to see in his church:

– to love passionately
– to suffer well
– to be disciplined
– to persevere
– to be authentic
– to be faithful
– to be repenting

May these be true of MCC and each of us in increasing measure! As we pray about our vision and our vision response for 2016, may we be refreshed by this part of God’s word!

As we continue in Revelation, we are considering four themes and four key questions for personal application. Here they are:

1. God is sovereign, holy and totally authoritative.
Do I fear and trust him?

2. God has a plan and wins thoroughly.

Brothers and Sisters:

Last Sunday we finished Revelation chapter one and considered the vision Jesus gave John in verses 12-16. It’s a stunning vision!

In the midst of a display of the power and awe of King Jesus, we see a tremendous warmth and care as Jesus reaches down and touches John, telling him not to be afraid.

He is “for” John. He is “for” you and me.

To those who trust him, Jesus is King, Master, Almighty. But he is also friend and brother – the lover of our souls.

Let’s continue to dwell in the true Jesus as he has revealed himself. Let us strip away the things we have assumed and seek the truth and grace of our King Jesus together.

As we go through Revelation, we are considering four themes and four key questions for personal application. Here they are:
