| Here was my chance to answer the call I had felt God so firmly press on my heart- a chance to spread his love to those society does not love, to bring freedom to those in bondage, and to feed the hungry and clothe the needy. |
Beausejour Mexico 2010 by Mariel Beausejour
In Mexico, there is a vast chasm between the Haves and the Have Nots. There is very little opportunity for the Mexican poor to 'change their stars,' and get out of poverty. A lack of education causes the cycle of poverty to carry on in Mexico. Ten percent of the population of Mexico is illiterate(Child Poverty). Poverty overlaps illiteracy, as ten percent of the population also lives on less than one dollar a day(Child Poverty).
Many of the children in the Casa Hogars(group homes for children) are placed in the home by parents who are unable to provide basic necessities. Often times, these parents were placed in a casa hogar as a child and were unable to escape the cycle of poverty (Nystrom).
