Brothers and Sisters

We have come to the end of Revelation. Everything will be made new. I mean everything!

Nothing evil or imperfect will survive. Only beauty, fullness and joy unending.

This is our destiny as followers of Jesus, joint heirs to eternal life.

Let us savor this, anticipate it, and make this life with our awesome God the heartbeat of our lives.

One last time, let’s ask God to make our answers to these four questions a resounding yes in every aspect of our lives!

1. God is sovereign, holy and totally authoritative.
Do I fear, love and trust him?

2. God has a plan and wins thoroughly.
Is he my true hope, peace and joy?

3. We have great reason to share this news with others.
Am I willing to be a priest, an agent of his grace?

4. Jesus is focused on his eternal Kingdom.
Am I really living in light of eternity?

Let’s live and love together in the Risen Jesus,

Denis

MID-WEEK

Revelation gives the church a logical ground of hope and the basis for thinking intelligently about this life and the next.

Ideas matter, and the right ideas about God matter most.

Friends

The destruction of Babylon and the return of Jesus in chapters 18 and 19 of Revelation bring us to the turning point of the cosmic battle of good vs. evil, and the certainty of God’s victory.

The very words of Jesus in John 14 promise us that he will return after going to prepare a place for us. In making this promise, Jesus reaffirms that he is the only way to the Father.

Let’s think. Having created the world in all it’s beauty the first time around, Jesus is making a place for us in his Father’s house. Now at the end of the Bible, we see his plan to make good on that.

He will completely destroy evil and put it away forever. He will judge perfectly, and demonstrate the wisdom of his judgments. Then he will make a new heaven and earth, as promised by the prophets.

The truth of Jesus should govern every aspect of life. How to think. How to relate to others. How to use money and time. How to raise kids. How to treat my spouse. How to vote. How to dream.

Let us be a thinking church. A church thoroughly grounded in the big ideas of Jesus. A church that aligns our lives with his Word.

Let’s keep meditating on four application questions raised by the book of Revelation. This week, let’s focus on the first question:

Learning to think like Jesus with you,

Denis

MID-WEEK

The wrath of God is a logical and fitting result of his love, his holiness, and his goodness.

It means we can trust that every wrong will one day be made right.

Beloved of God

The seven bowl judgments of chapters 15-17 raise the question of the wrath of God, and how that might fit in with his attributes of love, holiness and goodness.

When I look at the people around me devastated by evil – be it bullying, rape, racism, heroin, or sex trafficking – I can begin to see where wrath fits in.

God’s creation has been systematically attacked and ruined by evil which began in heavenly rebellion by Satan and his fallen angels. God is committed to setting these things right.

Isn’t God’s wrath consistent with his hatred of evil (true love)? Or his commitment to justice (true holiness)? And his commitment to punish evil (true goodness)?

Wrath makes sense doesn’t it?

Of course it all depends on your point of view. Those who have received friendship with God through the blood of Jesus welcome his wrath. Those opposed to their need for Jesus must live in fear of it.

And in his goodness, God continues to invite everyone to trust his Son, who absorbed the wrath we all deserve!

That what’s so good about wrath!

Let’s continue meditating on four application questions raised by the book of Revelation. This week, let’s stay focused on the third question:

Inviting people to follow Jesus with us is a privilege,

Denis
