We invite you to join us Christmas Eve for one of our Family Christmas Services. Services will be held at 4 – 5 – and 6 P.M. in the Chapel (at the intersection of Oak & Chestnut). These services will feature the Christmas Story told through readings from the Gospels as well as worship music featuring the traditional Christmas carols you know and love. Everyone is invited to participate in the singing! It’s a perfect way to begin your Christmas celebration. We look forward to being with you and your family at the Chapel this Christmas Eve.

MID-WEEK

Seek first his Kingdom!

Beloved:

I’m grateful for Dave Heidenreich’s message last Sunday as we concluded our SHAPING series. I’m encouraged that as I focus on the King and his agenda, I will have all I need! That’s a promise eh?

Here are 6 key concepts we learned about generosity:

1. It’s a heart issue – where your treasure is there will your heart be also. Giving is a way to grow closer to God.

2. God gave first – God so loved the world that he gave his only son. God filled our cup, now we can run over for others and his glory.

3. God owns it all – The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. As stewards (not owners) – our money is God’s to spend as he directs.

4. Seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you. God is trustworthy and good – make him #1!

5. Heaven, not earth, is my home. My citizenship is in heaven. Let me store treasure there with the resources I have here.

6. Giving brings joy – it is more blessed to give! As we grow in generosity, we become more like Jesus and more filled with his joy.

May we have a generous and joyful Thanksgiving, Denis

MID-WEEK

Last week: Store up treasure in heaven.
This week: Seek first his Kingdom!

Beloved:

Jordan Stone gave a fantastic message on storing up treasure in heaven last Sunday. Listen on line later this week or get a CD if you missed it!

The most powerful thing for me was the way Jordan outlined the benefits of storing up treasure in heaven compared to the sure loss of all our treasure on earth.

He also beautifully illustrated with a personal example how generosity had helped him overcome the sin of envy. Generosity removes sin and breeds joy.

This is such a bog idea to God that he added a Psalm that is basically an Ode to the Generous:

Psalm 112

Hallelujah!
Blessed man, blessed woman, who fear God,
Who cherish and relish his commandments,
Their children robust on the earth,
And the homes of the upright — how blessed!
Their houses brim with wealth
And a generosity that never runs dry.
Sunrise breaks through the darkness for good people —
God’s grace and mercy and justice!
The good person is generous and lends lavishly;
No shuffling or stumbling around for this one,
But a sterling and solid and lasting reputation.
Unfazed by rumor and gossip,
Heart ready, trusting in God,
Spirit firm, unperturbed,
Ever blessed, relaxed among enemies,
They lavish gifts on the poor —
A generosity that goes on, and on, and on.
An honored life! A beautiful life!
Someone wicked takes one look and rages,
Blusters away but ends up speechless.
There’s nothing to the dreams of the wicked.
Nothing. (MSG)

Look it up in your own version. Be encouraged, a life of generosity and righteousness are inseparable!

May Jesus make us more generous, Denis

Brothers and Sisters,

It was wonderful to hear and share more about our ministry investments in Nepal and Mexico on Sunday. I hope you can give me 9 minutes today: to read this, pray for the world’s 163,000,000 orphans, and look at the video below.

It is a high privilege to share in the ministry of Jesus in the care of these orphans, and to see God weave all these stories together even before we realized it was Global Orphan Sunday was a further reminder of his great care.

If you were there Sunday, you know we could only show part of the video below – please take a look now to see some amazing children in action in a beautiful story of care:

Let’s pray for the people of Jesus globally to love on each orphan child – and that we would have his caring heart, Denis

MID-WEEK

  • Last week: Be a servant.
  • This week: Care for those in need.

Fellow Servants in Training:

News flash: Jesus wants us to be great.

It’s not our desire for greatness that bothers him. It’s how we think about greatness that he wants to transform.

In John 13:12-17 Jesus shows the way with action and words:

1. After washing his disciples’ feet Jesus says: “Do you understand what I have done to you?” Jesus is checking their grasp of what it means to be a servant – and it’s not limited to foot- washing! Think toilets, garbage, serving the homeless, doing the dishes, etc.

2. Then Jesus checks motives. “For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.” Jesus asks that we truly welcome tasks that are “below” us.

3. Finally Jesus encourages us. “If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” Jesus is telling us that action with correct motives is the path to blessing.

This is the greatness that Jesus wants for us.

May we have his servant heart, Denis
