Brave Journey Compadres,

Last Sunday we looked at the Power of God released on Pentecost Sunday, and the powerful preaching of a transformed Peter. If you missed, here is the video: https://youtu.be/6W7KJ5Di54A

Peter’s transformation is especially encouraging because it came in the wake of spectacular failure – his threefold denial of Jesus. So whatever failure you may be carrying, give it to Jesus!

In Acts 2, the response to Peter’s message was visceral. People were “cut to the heart”. Have you ever been cut to the heart?

Jesus invites us to repent (turn from sin, think a new way) and believe that our sins will be forgiven in the name of Jesus. He then asks that we be baptized and that we receive the Holy Spirit.

Have you completed these steps of initiation into the Kingdom of God? If not, why not obey and act now? Plan to be baptized this Sunday. Seek the filling of the Holy Spirit.

Peter lived through these steps and experienced the awesome transformation that only Jesus can bring about. It’s real folks!

Let’s go for it together with Jesus! Denis

BRAVE Journey (Week Two) – Storm

Grow April 23, 2015

Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 1.51.40 PM
Fellow Stormers,

Last Sunday we looked at the wonderful story of Jesus and Peter walking on the water together. If you missed, here is the video: https://youtu.be/s5jjcUI5XNU

The storm got the best of Peter that day, but only Peter had the courage to get out of the boat. And he also knew Jesus would save him. I admire Peter’s willingness.

Three things stood out in the story:

1. The Identity of Jesus: Jesus is God, bringing to life the vision Job received in Job 9:8-11. This changes everything for us! He has all authority to do what we ask of him.

2. Courage instead of fear: Jesus invites us to “take courage” from him and to not be afraid. Trade your fears for his courage!

3. Faith instead of doubt: Jesus sees doubt as sin. It’s an awful way to live in view of all Jesus has done for us. As James says in 1:6-8, doubt makes us “tossed in the waves” and hampers our prayers. Doubt is part of being a fallen human, but Jesus wants to remove it and replace it with faith. Will we trust him to make that exch?

Let’s share our storms this week and fight for one another in prayer and encouragement. Trusting in the identity of Jesus, let us exchange our fear for his courage and our doubt for his faith.

Let’s go for it together with Jesus! Denis
